How To Avoid Getting Scammed or Robbed on Vacation
  • Be suspicious of everyone
  • Do not accept “free” gifts
  • Do not keep money or valuables in your pockets (wear a money belt under your clothes/ Men- secure your wallets with a large (heavy duty) rubber band.
  • Be assertive/ Be confident/ Do not feel pressured to purchase anything.
  • Beware of people trying to “help” (ie. taking pictures, carrying luggage, giving un-solicited advice and or directions.
  •  Beware of “pretty girls”/ handsome guys/ seniors/ children
            Asking for handouts or selling something
  • Beware of slow counting cashiers or cashiers who leave with your credit card
  • Beware of Meter- less taxis
  • Beware of someone who “finds” a lost wallet, ring, etc., on the ground
  • Beware of a musician or artist who offers a “free” sample, CD etc.
  • Beware of a person who uses a map (distraction) to give you directions
  • Beware of fake police officers
 
Most Popular Scams
  • Those who pick pocket for a living
  • Homeless mother with a child or children
  • Children who dance or engage you in a conversation
  • People who “accidentally” bump into you
  • Taxi drivers who do not use a meter and/ or in a hurry to leave (with a piece of your luggage)
  • Fake hotel room inspector or a call saying there was a problem with your credit card
  • A flat tire
  • Fake or winning tickets (to an event, a cruise, entrance fees, etc.)
  • A “free” shoe shine
  • Fortune tellers
  • Street performers
 
At one time or another you will fall victim to an Internet scam (stolen identity when someone uses your image or tries to contact your face book friends. 
 
.When checking into a hotel only use the password that is supplied by the front desk, never use a password that is posted on a wall or a chart.
 
If you fall asleep on a plane, bus or train, always be sure your valuables are secure
 
Note:I am sure there are more scams out there.  This list is not to scare you or discourage you from traveling, it is only to keep you safe whenever you travel
